On a project with the scale of a new Propane Export Facility, where every component and material must be tested and proven to meet strict engineering standards, the need for reliable data is paramount. The Allnorth team was responsible for managing the concrete portion of the project, which involved complex mass concrete placements and mockups to confirm mix designs.

A key objective was to have a simple, robust, and reliable temperature monitoring system that could provide real-time data, even in a remote location with limited connectivity. They needed a solution that would give them confidence in their data and streamline the monitoring process. The primary challenges included:

• Remote Location: The project site on Ridley Island is remote, making it difficult to manually retrieve data from a logger. The team needed a system that could transmit data automatically from the field.
• Data Reliability: The integrity of the data was critical. The team had to be certain that the monitors would not fail, even when exposed to the harsh conditions of a construction site situated on the shore of the pacific ocean.
• User Experience: The system had to be intuitive and easy to use, providing clear, real-time insights to both the on-site crew and the project coordinators in the office. This was especially important since the team had prior experience with a competitor’s product and knew what a poor user experience looked like.
• On-Site Durability: Construction environments are demanding. The equipment had to be durable enough to withstand being used adjacent to plastic concrete and handle the rigors of the job site without data loss.

• Relay – The wireless relay system automatically transmitted data from the xMonitors to the cloud via LTE, ensuring that the project coordinator, Katherine Rezanson, had real-time access to crucial temperature data from anywhere. This eliminated the need for manual data collection and significantly improved efficiency.
